After Tony Elumelu corrected a female executive trainee for calling him “Tony” at the UBA GMAP Class of 2026 graduation, Peller is now questioning whether people would have treated the situation the same if he was the one involved
He said;
“If I was the one who called Tony Elumelu ‘Tony’ yesterday, the whole internet would have shvt down. People would be calling me an ‘Olodo uprising’ and saying that’s why education is important. But because that girl is a graduate, nobody is saying anything about it.”
The trainee had greeted Elumelu with, “Good morning, Tony,” but he stopped her and told her to call him “Mr Elumelu,” “TOE,” or “Chairman.”
Elumelu also said he does not subscribe to that kind of “oyinbo lifestyle.”
The issue is whether Peller would have been judged more harshly if he had been the one to call Elumelu “Tony.” He is pointing to the different standards people can apply depending on who is involved.
