Peter Okoye of P-Square was accused of lying about his education and finances during a court hearing between him and the group’s former manager, Jude Okoye

During a heated cross-examination, defence counsel Clement Onwuenwunor, SAN, alleged that Peter misled the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by falsely claiming to be a university graduate. He told the court that Peter, also known as Mr. P, actually dropped out at the 100 level from the University of Abuja.
“Page A5 of your statement to the EFCC is false,” Onwuenwunor told the court. “In paragraph one, you claimed to be a graduate of the University of Abuja, but you dropped out at 100 level.”
Responding, Peter said, “I went to UNIABUJA, but that’s not why I’m here. I dropped out at 300 level and took a transcript to the University of Science and Technology (UST), Port Harcourt.”
However, when asked if he had any proof that he graduated from UST, Peter admitted he did not.
The court session became tense as Peter, visibly upset, had to be cautioned twice by Justice Alexander Owoeye and his counsel, Barrister M.K. Bashir, for being disrespectful during cross-examination.
Further contradictions emerged when Peter was confronted with company records. He had earlier testified that Jude’s wife, Ifeoma Okoye, owns 80% of Northside Music Limited, with Jude owning the remaining 20%. But Onwuenwunor presented the company’s CAC documents, which showed the reverse: Jude holds 80% and his wife 20%. Peter was forced to admit his earlier claim was incorrect.
Onwuenwunor also addressed Peter’s denial of access to Northside Music Ltd’s bank accounts. Contrary to Peter’s claim that Jude was the sole signatory, the defence presented a signed bank mandate showing Jude as a category A signatory, while Peter and Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) are category B signatories—meaning they also have access to the company’s accounts.
Additionally, bank statements were submitted in court showing that Peter benefited from royalties paid by Lex Records to Northside Entertainment between 2012 and 2017. This directly contradicted Peter’s EFCC statement, in which he claimed he never received any proceeds from Lex Records.
The judge, Justice Owoeye, admitted the bank statement as Exhibit P3 and adjourned the case to October 23 and November 10, 2025, for continuation of the cross-examination and trial.
