Bayelsa State Police Command yesterday arrested a 60-year-old man, Pentecost Elijah from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, following the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) at the State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa around 6:00 a.m
According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, the alert came around 6:00 a.m., prompting him to immediately deploy the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Special Drone Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene.

On arrival, the EOD operatives secured and cordoned off the area, conducting a thorough search that led to the discovery of an unexploded IED. The device was safely identified and neutralized without causing any casualties or property damage.
The police confirmed that a 60-year-old man, Pentecost Elijah from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was arrested in connection with the incident.
DSP Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa State, stated that the suspect is being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will face charges once investigations are concluded.
The command assured the public that the situation is under control and normalcy has been fully restored, urging residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities.
