The Kaduna State Police Command has denied claims that over 100 worshippers were kidnapped in Kajuru Local Government Area, describing the reports as entirely false
Police Commissioner Muhammad Rabiu called the allegation a deliberate fabrication, attributing it to “conflict entrepreneurs” spreading misinformation to create panic and destabilize the state. The false claim, which circulated on Monday, suggested that armed bandits attacked a church service in Kurmin Wali village on Sunday and abducted more than 100 congregants.

Speaking to journalists after a State Security Council meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Rabiu dismissed the reports and urged anyone promoting the story to provide evidence. He warned the public against believing unverified information and stated that individuals spreading false narratives would face legal consequences. He further challenged anyone insisting the kidnapping occurred to present the names and details of the alleged victims.
Supporting the police position, Kajuru Local Government Chairman Dauda Madaki said security personnel were immediately deployed to the area after hearing about the supposed attack. Investigations at Kurmin Wali revealed no evidence of a kidnapping.
“We visited the church where the so-called kidnap took place. There was no sign of any attack. I spoke with the village head, Mai Dan Zaria, who confirmed no such incident occurred. The youth leader, Bernard Bona, also told our press team that nothing happened,” Madaki stated. He added that the rumor appeared to be fueled by individuals unhappy with the relative peace Kajuru has experienced under the current administration.
Madaki urged residents to remain calm, continue their daily activities, and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shauibu (SAN), corroborated the findings, noting that religious leaders, including the state CAN chairman, had visited the area and confirmed that the reports were false. “Kaduna State Government has zero tolerance for criminality,” he said.
Authorities have therefore advised the public to disregard the kidnapping claims and rely solely on verified information from official security sources.
