The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed claims by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested in the state, calling the reports false and misleading
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police stated that Boko Haram has not been sighted or located anywhere in Lagos. The statement described the reports as “false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public.”
Following the allegations, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh ordered an investigation. According to the statement, community leaders, park operators, and drivers in the areas mentioned confirmed to the police that no Boko Haram members had been seen in those locations.
“Surveillance detectives, officers from the State Intelligence Department (SID), and other formations of the Force were deployed to the said areas to verify the claims, and no evidence of the group’s presence was found anywhere in Lagos,” the statement said.
The Command urged Lagosians to disregard the report, labeling it “unfortunate, despicable, and untrue.”
Residents were encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear, with the police assuring them of continued safety and security.
“The media are advised not to allow their platforms to be used to spread fake news and falsehood that could threaten the peace and stability of Lagos State,” the police said.
Citizens were also urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call the control room on 08063299264.
