A pregnant woman in labor has tragically died after being refused treatment at a private hospital due to her inability to pay a N500,000 deposit
The heartbreaking incident, initially shared on Instagram in February by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, recently went viral on X (formerly Twitter).
In a video posted by Folajimi, his wife, Kemi, is seen in a car, visibly weak, as he desperately tries to keep her conscious. Calling her name repeatedly, he pleads, “Kemi, look at me. Stay strong. Think about your kids, please.”
According to Folajimi, they first sought help at a private hospital, but when they couldn’t afford the deposit, they were turned away. The hospital directed them to a general hospital in Epe, but she didn’t survive the journey.
“The doctor told me to deposit ₦500,000, and I begged him to start treatment, but they drove us out like we didn’t matter,” he wrote. “They sent us to a general hospital in Epe, even though they knew it was too far for her condition. Before we got there, she was gone.”
Expressing his grief and frustration, he added, “Such a wicked institution. Only God knows and sees all. This is too much for me.”
