President Bola Tinubu held private talks with Sierra Leonean President Julius Bio on Friday night at the State House in Abuja
Bio arrived at the Villa at 9:08 pm and was received at the forecourt by a full row of presidential bagpipers from the Brigade of Guards before being escorted to Tinubu’s office for the closed-door meeting.

The discussions come four months after Bio assumed the chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in July 2025, succeeding Tinubu, who served in the role for two years. While the specifics of the meeting were not disclosed, sources suggest it likely focused on Bio’s regional responsibilities.

The talks also take place amid growing international attention on Nigeria’s response to terrorism, following warnings from US President Donald Trump about potential military action over alleged mass killings of Christians—a claim Tinubu has denied, insisting it does not reflect the country’s reality.

Earlier this week, ECOWAS dismissed the genocide allegations as “false narratives designed to inflame tensions,” noting that extremist groups in the Sahel and West Africa target civilians of all faiths to destabilize communities and weaken social cohesion.
This marks President Bio’s first visit to Nigeria since taking over as ECOWAS Chairman.
