A funeral service in Aleto community, Eleme, Rivers State, took an unexpected turn on Friday when a pastor collapsed while delivering a sermon and later d!ed.
The minister, Deacon Steve Eyo, was attending the funeral service when he took the pulpit to speak about de.ath and what comes after it.
His sermon was reportedly titled: “The Certainty of Death and Hope Beyond.”
P.M. News reports that Eyo while preaching told the mourners that de.ath was certain and could not be avoided. He reportedly compared de.ath to going to the market, explaining that some people leave early while others stay until later.
He also said that people d!e at different times, just as people leave the market at different times, and that death can come when it is least expected.
About 15 minutes into the sermon, the pastor suddenly collapsed.
His microphone hit the floor with a loud sound, immediately drawing the attention of those at the service. At first, some people thought he was demonstrating the point he had just made about how suddenly death can happen. It soon became clear that the situation was serious.
Eyo was taken to the back of the church while choir members and other ministers gathered around him. Prayers were offered, and people with medical knowledge tried to give him first aid.
It was later noticed that he had stopped breathing of which he was rushed to a nearby hospital in the same ambulance that had been hired to transport the remains of the deceased whose funeral was being held.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced de.ad at the hospital.
