Some members of the House of Representatives staged a walkout in protest over attempts to reverse the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment bill
The unrest began after Francis Waive, Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, moved a motion to rescind the bill, which was originally passed on December 23, 2025.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas put the motion to a voice vote. Despite the “nays” being louder than the “ayes,” he ruled in favor of the ayes, sparking outrage among some lawmakers. Abbas then called for an executive session, but the move failed to calm tensions, and the chamber erupted into another chaotic session.
Lawmakers protested specifically against Clause 60(3), which mandates the compulsory electronic transmission of results. They stood in objection and blocked Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu from continuing with the proceedings.
Frustrated by the situation, the aggrieved members eventually walked out of plenary, halting the session.
