Portugal’s disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has continued to generate reactions, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, now finding herself at the centre of controversy after appearing to endorse criticism of Bruno Fernandes
Portugal were expected to begin their campaign strongly but were held to a shock draw by DR Congo, who secured the first World Cup point in their history.
João Neves put the Europeans ahead just minutes into the contest, but DR Congo fought back and levelled through Yoane Wissa before half-time to earn a famous result.

The draw exposed Portugal’s struggles in attack, with the team dominating possession but failing to convert their superiority into goals. Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and other star players endured difficult outings, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner unable to register a shot on target.
The result also extended Ronaldo’s barren run in major tournaments, as he is now without a goal in his last 10 matches for Portugal at World Cups and European Championships.
While Ronaldo has faced criticism for his performance, Bruno Fernandes has also come under scrutiny, with many fans questioning his influence in the number 10 role.
Adding to the debate, Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, appeared to back one of the criticisms directed at the Manchester United midfielder after liking an Instagram post mocking Fernandes.
The post read:
“This one here is the Raphinha for Portugal. Too much popcorn for the national team.”
