Rudi Garcia will leave his role as Belgium head coach after the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) confirmed his contract, which expires on July 31, will not be renewed
The decision comes after Belgium’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign ended in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 defeat to eventual champions Spain.
In a statement released on Monday, the RBFA announced the end of Garcia’s 18-month spell in charge of the Red Devils.
Reflecting on his departure, Garcia said, “After discussions with the Belgian Federation, we decided not to extend the excellent run of the past 18 months.”
He added, “I leave Belgium in League A of the Nations League and among the world’s top eight teams.”
The 62-year-old also expressed gratitude to his players, sporting director Vincent Mannaert and the fans for their support throughout his time with the national team.
Garcia, who took over in early 2025 after coaching clubs including Lille, Marseille, Lyon and AS Roma, guided Belgium to the World Cup quarter-finals and helped the team retain its place in League A of the UEFA Nations League.
He departs with a record of 12 wins, six draws and two defeats in 20 matches.
The RBFA is yet to announce a replacement. Belgium’s next fixtures are UEFA Nations League clashes against Italy on September 25 and France on September 28.
