Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after spending nearly 20 years in a coma

The royal, a nephew of billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, fell into a coma in 2005 following a devastating car crash. Since then, he remained on life support, with his condition closely followed across the Arab world.
His family announced the news of his death in a statement posted on X on Saturday, expressing “profound sadness and sorrow” and confirming that his funeral would take place in Riyadh on Sunday.
Over the years, Prince Al Waleed became a powerful symbol of faith, resilience, and hope. Many continued to pray for his recovery, especially after a video emerged five years ago showing him make a small movement with his fingers.
Photos of the prince, often wrapped in the Saudi national flag and surrounded by medical equipment, were regularly shared by his family. One striking image bore the message, “Our Country is in Our Hearts,” reflecting both personal and national pride.
His passing has drawn an outpouring of tributes from across the region, bringing to a close a decades-long chapter that moved millions.
