The Senate has officially sworn in Joseph Ikpea and Emmanuel Nwachukwu as new senators representing Edo Central and Anambra South senatorial districts, respectively
The swearing-in ceremony took place during Wednesday’s plenary session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Ojo, administered the oaths of office and allegiance to the two lawmakers.

Their inauguration follows by-elections held to fill the seats vacated by Monday Okpebholo, who is now Governor of Edo State, and the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died in July 2024.
Before the ceremony, the Senate suspended its standing rules to allow family members and dignitaries into the chamber to witness the event.

Notable guests in attendance included former Delta State Governor James Ibori, former Edo State Deputy Governor and Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports Philip Shaibu, among other political figures.
Senate President Akpabio congratulated the new lawmakers and urged them to familiarize themselves with the Senate’s standing rules to ensure effective participation in legislative duties.
With their induction, the Senate now has its complete complement of 109 members.
