The lawsuit, filed on February 25, 2025, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, also names the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Mfon Patrick, a Senior Legislative Aide to Akpabio, as co-defendants. The case is marked CV/737/25.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal action follows a dispute over the reassignment of her Senate seat after opposition lawmakers switched to the majority. She resisted the move, leading to tensions between her and Akpabio.

Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, argued that defamatory remarks were made by the Senate President and published by his aide on Facebook. The post, titled “Is the Local Content Committee of the Senate Natasha’s Birthright?”, included a statement suggesting that she believed being a lawmaker was about “pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the chambers.”

Giwa described the remarks as “defamatory, provocative, and disparaging,” stating that they lowered his client’s reputation among her colleagues and the public.

Akpoti-Uduaghan is asking the court to declare the statement defamatory and issue a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants from making further defamatory remarks against her on any platform.

She is also seeking N100 billion in general damages and N300 million in litigation costs.
