Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has dismissed the ruling delivered by a Lokoja high court which ordered her to pay N1 billion in damages to former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, over alleged defamatory comments
The lawmaker made it clear that she is not accepting the decision and will be heading to the Court of Appeal to contest the judgment.

The judgment, delivered on Thursday by Justice A.S. Ibrahim in suit number HCL/16/2023, found Akpoti-Uduaghan liable for defamation following statements she made during an appearance on Arise Television on November 4, 2022.
During the interview, she reacted to allegations previously made against her by Bello, describing him with terms the court later ruled to be damaging to his reputation, including “murderer, killer, perpetrator of evil acts, and a terror to the people of Kogi state.”
In his ruling, Justice Ibrahim held that the remarks were unjustified and defamatory, resolving all issues presented in favour of the claimant, Bello.
The court further issued a perpetual injunction barring Akpoti-Uduaghan, as well as her representatives or associates, from making any further defamatory statements against Bello on television or radio.
