Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has vowed to resume legislative duties at the National Assembly on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in line with a court judgment, despite an appeal filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio

“I have pretty much two months more before the six months expire. However, I have written to the Senate again telling them that I’m resuming on the 22nd, which is on Tuesday, by the special grace of God,” she said.
Responding to claims that the court decision was merely an order, Akpoti-Uduaghan argued, “It’s not an order — it is a decision.”
Currently in her constituency for a training programme aimed at empowering residents, the senator noted that although her suspension has not stopped her from carrying out constituency projects, it has hindered her core duties at the Senate — especially lawmaking and legislative oversight.
“I did mention that every senator has three major functions: Legislative — which is the creation of laws and review of treaties; Oversight — to monitor ministries and agencies; and Representation — which I’m doing,” she explained.
She emphasized that while she has been able to identify and push for her community’s needs to be included in the federal budget, she regrets being unable to sponsor bills or present motions on the Senate floor.
Despite the Senate’s stance, Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed that she has officially written to notify the leadership of her planned resumption.
