Singer Orezi questions academic standards after fresh JAMB benchmark announcement

Singer Orezi has reacted to the newly announced minimum admission scores for tertiary institutions in Nigeria, expressing concern over what he described as a noticeable decline in academic standards.

In a post shared on his page, the singer reflected on his own admission experience, drawing a comparison with current requirements.

He wrote:
“What is happening? A decline in education? I scored 224 in JAMB back then and my chances of getting admission into UNILAG was 30%. Finally got it… even though I didn’t get my first choice of study. Crazy… 150 cut off mark. This kids no Dey read again oo lol. Too low mehn ”.

The reaction follows an announcement by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in conjunction with heads of tertiary institutions, which set the Minimum Admissible Scores for university admissions at 150. Colleges of Nursing were also fixed at 150, while polytechnics will admit candidates from a benchmark of 100.

The statement from the meeting noted: “The Heads of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria had unanimously agreed that the Minimum Admissible Scores for admissions into Universities should be 150, Colleges of Nursing, 150, and Polytechnics, 100. Entering Age into the Nigerians Tertiary Institutions remai”.

The announcement has since drawn attention on the internet, with Orezi’s comments adding to the ongoing public reaction to the revised admission thresholds.
