Sotayo Gaga narrates how she became Queen mother of Uke Kingdom

Actress Tayo Sobola, aka Sotayo Gaga, has shared the astonishing story of how she became the Sarauniya (Queen Mother) of Uke Kingdom in Nasarawa State

In an interview with The Nation, she recalled the unexpected turn of events that led to her coronation.

Sobola explained that she was initially invited to participate in a charity mission in Uke, which she accepted without hesitation.

Upon arrival at the Emir’s palace, she waited for the Emir to appear, unaware of the significance of her presence.

As she sat waiting, Sobola noticed a hushed conversation between her companion and another man, but she didn’t think much of it. However, when the Emir emerged, he surprisingly invited her to sit beside him. As people gathered around, speaking in a language she couldn’t understand, the Emir made a shocking announcement: Sobola would be bestowed with the title of Sarauniya.

Confused and taken aback, Sobola sought an explanation. She discovered that the seat she had occupied upon entering the palace was the former Sarauniya’s seat, which had been vacant for years.

According to tradition, the palace soothsayer would consult the spirits to determine if a visitor was the destined successor. On that day, the spirits chose Sobola.

She said: “I didn’t pick myself, nor did I know anything about it. I was invited to join a charity mission in Uke by an acquaintance who visited my shop in Abuja. He pleaded with me to come along, and I agreed. I simply picked an outfit from my collection, wore it, and left for Nasarawa.”

“Apparently, where I sat down upon entering the palace was the seat of the former Sarauniya, and the kingdom had been waiting for years for a stranger to come and unknowingly occupy the seat.

Each time a visitor entered the palace, the palace soothsayer would consult the spirits to determine if the person was the destined successor. That day, it turned out to be me.”
