South Africa eases visa entry for Nigerian entrepreneurs

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Tuesday the streamlining of visa processes to facilitate travel for Nigerian businesspeople and tourists, including the introduction of five-year multiple-entry visas

The announcement came during the opening of the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission session in Cape Town, attended by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, Ramaphosa emphasized simplifying visa procedures to foster business exchanges between the two nations.

“Qualifying Nigerian entrepreneurs will be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas,” Ramaphosa stated, highlighting South Africa’s efforts to create a more favorable business environment. He also pledged to continue removing barriers to investment and addressing business challenges in both countries.

Celebrating 30 years of diplomatic ties, Ramaphosa expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations, underlining the strong foundation of friendship between Nigeria and South Africa. He noted the significant presence of South African companies in Nigeria and the openness of South Africa to Nigerian businesses. However, he acknowledged the need for further efforts to eliminate investment barriers and resolve existing business challenges.

The South African leader commended Nigeria’s ongoing reforms to attract investors, including those from South Africa, and reiterated his government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business. “We aim to ensure investors can operate, trade, and explore opportunities across various sectors. We welcome more Nigerian companies to invest in South Africa,” he said.
