Omoyele Sowore has issued a 7-days ultimatum to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over the ongoing controversy surrounding Jabi Lake in Abuja.
Speaking during a protest at the area while holding a megaphone, Sowore vowed that protesters would resist any attempt to take over the public space, giving authorities a seven-day ultimatum to bring down what he described as an illegal wall around the lake.

“And Nigerians who should have been here today, but because today is not Saturday, we are coming back on a Saturday,” he said.
“We are giving them seven days ultimatum to remove any hindrance that is interfering with this place. If they don’t, Nigerians can take down the wall. In our large numbers, we don’t even need to use a hammer or scissor. If we all push the wall, it will fall.”
Sowore compared the structure to the biblical wall of Jericho, insisting that it would also collapse if the people stood together.
“This wall was not even as strong as the wall of Jericho. And that one fell. If that one fell, this one can fall as well,” he declared.
The activist also warned developers allegedly linked to the project to stop construction activities and seek another location.
“And if you are the developer, please be advised that you have just bought the land that the people of Yoruba call Ile Orisha. The land that belongs to the gods. Anybody that buys the gods’ land can never rest. Come and stop your development and tell Wike to find you another land elsewhere.”
Sowore further accused the government of taking away the only means of survival for many young people around the lake, claiming several residents depend on activities in the area to survive.
“You can’t provide jobs for people. The little places where they make ends meet, you come and take it over. All these young people who are galloping with horses, this is how they make a living,” he said.
He ended his speech by warning that public frustration across the country was growing and could spark a revolution if authorities continued to ignore the people’s concerns.
