Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has confirmed he will honour a police summons today, Wednesday, August 6, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja with his full squad

Sowore revealed in a statement on Tuesday night that he will appear before the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit alongside a group of fellow activists and freedom fighters in what could signal the beginning of renewed nationwide protests.
The police had earlier invited Sowore for questioning over a petition alleging forgery and criminal defamation, as stated in a letter dated August 5. While Sowore had written to the unit requesting details of the allegations and the identity of the petitioner, the Monitoring Unit insisted he must appear in person before the content of the petition could be disclosed.
Taking to his official Facebook page, Sowore announced that his appearance would also mark the launch of the #EgbetokunMustGo campaign — targeting the current Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun — and a broader #PoliceProtest.
The move has sparked speculation about a potential fresh wave of protests, with tensions already mounting in activist circles.
All eyes are now on Abuja, where both the meeting and the unfolding resistance may set the tone for a new round of civil agitation.
