Students d!e in Oyo fatal accident while heading for JAMB exam

A tragic accident on the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State has claimed the lives of several students who were on their way to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination

According to a video clip obtained by SaharaReporters, the incident occurred on Saturday morning and involved a commercial vehicle transporting the students to a JAMB centre in Ogbomoso. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the crash was caused by a brake failure.

The video was captioned, “Fatal accident claimed the lives of students that were going to write JAMB in Ogbomoso on Oyo Road, Oyo State.”

Efforts to get a response from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful as calls and messages seeking confirmation of the incident went unanswered.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters also reported that JAMB had arrested 27 individuals for impersonation during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The board stated that the arrested impersonators have been handed over to the Nigerian Police for prosecution.

In addition, JAMB announced the delisting of four Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres that failed to meet the required technical standards for conducting the UTME. The centres are:

  • Adventure Associate, Behind Sheshe Supermarket, Off Hadejia Road, Kano, Kano State
  • Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Zaria Road, Naibawa, Kano, Kano State
  • Penta M & F Technical Services Ltd, Centre 1, 96km Sokoto-Jega Road, Tambuwal
  • Penta M & F Technical Services Ltd, Centre 2, 96km Sokoto-Jega Road, Tambuwal

In a statement issued on Friday by its spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB commended 883 centres for outstanding performance but warned that any centre failing to meet ethical or technical standards would be blacklisted, regardless of ownership.
