The announcement comes after the confirmed sighting of the new moon across different parts of the country, signifying the start of the sacred Islamic month, which holds immense spiritual importance for Muslims worldwide. This period culminates in Eid al-Adha, scheduled to be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025.

As the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, the Sultan urged the Muslim faithful to use the holy month for deep reflection, devotion, and national unity. He emphasized the importance of prayer for Nigeria’s peace, progress, and stability during these challenging times.

Zulhijja, the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar, features the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid al-Adha—commonly known as the Festival of Sacrifice—in remembrance of the unwavering faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

Calling on the Muslim Ummah to emulate the Prophet’s virtues, His Eminence encouraged acts of sacrifice, compassion, and generosity toward the less privileged. He also appealed to Islamic scholars and community leaders to use the season to promote messages of peace, tolerance, and interfaith harmony.

Highlighting the nation’s current socio-economic realities, the Sultan stressed the need for collective prayers and moral responsibility.

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III remains a respected voice for moderation and peaceful coexistence, with his leadership continuing to inspire Muslims across Nigeria and beyond—especially during moments of spiritual significance like the month of Zulhijja.
