Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that his elder brother, Bashir El-Rufai, stayed away from their mother’s burial activities over fears of a possible arrest
He made the disclosure on Monday in Abuja during the third-day Firdau prayer held in honour of their late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, where family members and associates gathered as part of Islamic funeral rites.

According to him, the family received information suggesting that authorities were planning to detain his brother, prompting them to advise him to remain in Cairo, Egypt, while he attended the events.
“My elder brother Bashir El-Rufai couldn’t make it because we learned that there is a plan to arrest him because they believe if they get him, I will negotiate, that was why we ask him to stay in Cairo and I will be present.”
El-Rufai added that the decision for his brother to remain abroad was made ahead of both the funeral and the Firdau prayer, explaining his absence from the ceremonies.
