All three senators from Kebbi State—Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)—on Tuesday formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the floor of the Senate

Their defection, announced through individual letters read by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin during plenary, comes amid an ongoing wave of defections hitting the PDP. The senators cited internal crises and leadership issues within the PDP as their reason for switching allegiance.
With their move, the APC now holds 68 seats in the 10th Senate, while the PDP’s tally drops from 33 to 30. The rest of the Senate is made up of five Labour Party (LP) senators, two from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and one each from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Two Senate seats remain vacant—one due to the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (Anambra South) and the other following Senator Monday Okpebholo’s emergence as Governor of Edo State.
The defections from Kebbi State reflect shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
