President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has relieved Mr Saidu Mohammed of his position as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority

In his place, the President has put forward Mr Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new head of the agency, pending approval by the Senate.

The development was made public in a statement released on Wednesday by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the removal of Mr Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in the public interest,” the statement read.

The presidency explained that the move aligns with provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and is part of efforts to improve oversight and efficiency in the midstream and downstream oil sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Umar, the nominee for the role, brings over 25 years of professional experience spanning energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. He studied Accounting at Bayero University Kano and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
