Back in the day when Mr May D was one of the hottest names in Nigerian music, social media personality Tunde Perry says he was a huge fan. But according to him, one unexpected experience at a live show completely changed how he felt about the singer.
Sharing the story, Tunde recalled attending a performance at Fela’s Shrine in 2012, where Mr May D was entertaining the crowd with one of his biggest songs featuring P-Square. During the performance, the singer tossed his gold chain into the audience, and after struggling through the crowd, Tunde says he was the lucky person who caught it.
For him, it felt like he had just won something valuable. He said he was so excited that he couldn’t even sleep that night, worried someone around him might steal the chain.
Still believing he had something worth good money, he took it to an Aboki buyer the following day, hoping to sell it. That’s when reality set. The buyer examined the chain and told him it wasn’t worth buying, saying it was only ordinary metal.
Recalling the moment, he said:
“Mr MayD used to be one artist I loved so much when he was in the limelight. The very day I started h@t!ng him was when I went to Fela’s Shrine to watch him perform. That was in 2012.
He was performing his hit song, the one he sang with P-Square. While he was on stage, he threw his gold chain into the crowd, and I caught it.
I knew the struggle I went through to get it , so at that moment, I thought I was rich already. I was very happy. I couldn’t sleep that night because I was scared my friends might ste@l the chain.
The next day, I rushed to meet an Aboki to sell it. The Aboki man said he can’t buy that chain for even ₦200 because it’s iron condemn.”
