She edged out Nigerian superstars Tems and Burna Boy, as well as Central Cee and YG Marley, to claim the award.

The 23-year-old singer, best known for her global hit “Water”, became the first-ever winner of this newly introduced category at the awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Tyla’s win marks another major milestone in her skyrocketing career.

Over the past year, she has dominated global charts, won a Grammy for Best African Music Performance, and collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry.

Her breakout single “Water” took the world by storm, topping the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Chart, earning platinum certifications, and even getting a remix with Travis Scott.
