Several prominent UK celebrities, including Dawn O’Porter, Paloma Faith, and Livia Firth, have voiced their disappointment and concern as Donald Trump is re-elected as U.S. President.
As news broke that Trump had secured several key swing states and had claimed early victory, many stars took to social media to express their shock.
Dawn O’Porter, who spent 16 years living in the U.S., shared an image of a red-colored U.S. map with the caption: “Feel like I’m going to cry for the rest of my life.”
She added, “This is breaking my heart. After all that, still this.”
Paloma Faith reacted by expressing fears for the future of “women’s rights, liberalism, and freedom of speech,” writing, “Hello racism, hello capitalism, hello climate change, hello war, hello end of days.”
She humorously compared the anticipation to waiting for an STD test result, saying, “Today feels like the whole country is waiting for an STD result.”
Later that morning, she posted, “Sadly the results came back positive.”
Activist Livia Firth also voiced her dismay, posting, “What is a word bigger than heartache?” and listing words like “agony, anguish, bitterness, despair, grief, heartache, pain, remorse, sorrow, suffering, torment, woe.”
While some were openly disappointed, other celebrities cheered Trump’s lead.
Victoria Baker-Harber from ‘Made in Chelsea‘ posted a selfie in bed with a wine glass, writing, “world peace may just be one step closer,” along with images of Trump.
Later, she shared a headline that announced Trump’s potential win, adding, “yay!”
