The Ukrainian Air Force announced on Saturday that it had destroyed a strategically important road bridge in Russia’s Kursk region, marking a significant move in its ongoing offensive.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk shared a video on Telegram showing the bombing of the bridge over the Seim River in the Glushkovo district, which experts believe to be authentic. The bridge’s destruction cuts off a key supply route for Russian troops.
Russia had previously reported the bridge’s destruction, stating it had been targeted by Ukrainian forces for days following an incursion launched on August 6. Oleshchuk confirmed that the Air Force is actively involved in combat operations in the region, targeting enemy strongholds, equipment, and supply routes. He praised the efforts of Ukrainian pilots and those supporting the Air Force.
This offensive in the Kursk region is part of Ukraine’s broader strategy amid Russia’s full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022. Kiev aims to pressure Moscow into negotiations to end the conflict. Kursk Governor Alexey Smirnov reported the bridge’s destruction on Friday, and Russian military bloggers noted that the bridge was initially shelled with U.S.-made rockets before being destroyed by a glide bomb.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned Ukraine for using Western weapons to target civilian infrastructure and vowed that those responsible would be punished.
