The United States government has announced $32.5 million in humanitarian pledge to help tackle Nigeria’s growing hunger crisis
The funds, channelled through the World Food Programme (WFP), will provide life-saving food and nutrition support to more than 764,000 people across the country’s conflict-affected Northeast and Northwest.

According to the WFP, the aid will target vulnerable groups, including over 41,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls, as well as more than 43,000 children, who will receive specialised nutrition through electronic food vouchers.
The intervention comes at a critical time as funding cuts and persistent insecurity have worsened food shortages, forcing the closure of some nutrition centres in Borno State and leaving millions at risk of severe hunger.
US officials said the support is aimed at alleviating immediate suffering while reinforcing ongoing efforts to protect the health and wellbeing of Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations.
This latest commitment underscores Washington’s continued partnership with Nigeria in addressing humanitarian challenges and supporting food security.
