The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025, in observance of U.S. Independence Day

The announcement was made via the official X account of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025, in observance of the U.S. Independence Day,” the statement read.
While the notice did not specify the status of visa, passport, or other consular services, such closures typically pause all non-emergency operations. Regular services are expected to resume on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Globally, U.S. embassies and consulates observe the holiday annually, often using the occasion to engage host countries through receptions, cultural activities, and public diplomacy efforts.
