The Kaduna State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist Jacob Zango, who passed away in Kaduna on Wednesday after a brief illness.
In a statement signed by SWAN Kaduna Secretary, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, and released on Friday, Kaduna SWAN Chairman Shehu Abdullahi shared his personal shock and sadness upon hearing the news.
“On behalf of all our members and SWAN President, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, who is also from our state, we express our sadness following the demise of one of our veterans,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that during their time working together at the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), where Zango was employed until his passing, they were not just colleagues but close like brothers.
The statement noted that Zango’s death comes at a time when his extensive experience was still greatly valued within SWAN.
SWAN extended its condolences to Zango’s family, KSMC, the Atyap community, the Kaduna State Government, and his many friends and professional colleagues.
“We pray that the Almighty God grants his gentle soul eternal rest,” the statement concluded.
