Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has revealed that he deliberately embraced emotional roles early in his career so audiences would remember him for something unique.

Speaking during an interview on Morayo Brown’s podcast, the actor recalled that many people initially referred to him as the actor who resembled Odunlade Adekola. Rather than remain in someone else’s shadow, he decided to build his own identity.

According to him, he chose to become known for his ability to cry convincingly in movies, a decision that eventually earned him the nickname “the crying machine.”

“They don’t know my name, but they describe me as that guy that cries a lot in movies,” he said, explaining that the nickname became part of his journey in the industry.

Adedimeji also spoke about his popular “Iya Peju” character, saying it was created during the COVID-19 lockdown.

He admitted he did not initially see it as a major project and only continued with the character after viewers repeatedly asked for more.

“The Iya Peju character started in lockdown, and it wasn’t something I took seriously until people started asking for more,” he said.
