The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday led three former governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja
The meeting featured key members of the defunct G5—a faction of PDP governors who broke away from the party’s leadership ahead of the 2023 elections. In attendance were former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, former Benue governor Samuel Ortom, and former Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu, all known allies of Wike.
While the outcome of the meeting was not made public, it is widely believed to be part of ongoing consultations for a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, who spearheaded the G5 rebellion in 2023, had led the group to oppose PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, insisting that the party’s ticket should have been zoned to the South. The crisis eventually led the G5 to throw their weight behind Tinubu, then the APC presidential candidate.
Following his victory, Tinubu appointed Wike as Minister of the FCT, further cementing their political alliance.
