FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday slammed activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, saying he was “fortunate” to openly call President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a “criminal” and still remain free
Speaking at the flag-off of the Arterial Road N1 construction project in Wuye, Wike praised Tinubu’s commitment to the rule of law, suggesting that under different leadership, Sowore might have faced harsher consequences.

The minister was responding to a tweet by Sowore on August 25, in which the activist called Tinubu a “criminal,” referencing a video from the President’s visit to Brazil where Tinubu claimed corruption no longer exists under his administration. Sowore wrote: “This criminal @officialpbat actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria. What audacity to lie shamelessly!”
Wike said:
“This is a country where somebody on social media will say Mr. President is a criminal; nothing will happen. You are lucky to have a President who believes in the rule of law. Continue to be lucky. There are those you will meet that you won’t be lucky again.”
He also contrasted Nigeria with other countries, adding:
“No matter how people criticize Trump, have you ever seen any American citizen call their President a criminal on social media or in public? But here, anyone can wake up and abuse the President—and we are fine with it. You are lucky to have a President who respects the rule of law.”
