A woman has bagged a 20-year jail term for scamming older men for million-dollar properties
Carolina Herrling, aka Carrie Phenix, from Los Angeles, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in scamming and targeting older men and their valuable properties.
Described as ‘greedy and grotesque’ by a U.S. District Judge, Herrling exploited vulnerable victims, taking over their luxurious homes.
Shockingly, she’s also accused of disposing of one victim’s body after he died in a home she seized.
Her scheme involved targeting older individuals, two of whom died shortly after she took control.
Charles Wilding, 71, was found dead in his Sherman Oaks home in 2020, which Herrling quickly claimed.
Similarly, Robert Tascon, 53, committed su*cide in 2022, allowing Herrling to fraudulently sell his Encino mansion.
Miracle Williams, Tascon’s partner, described Herrling as a heartless ‘manipulator’ and ‘con artist’ who exploited the deceased.
Herrling’s sentencing follows her pleading guilty to wire fraud charges, requiring her to pay $3.88 million in restitution. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada condemned her actions, emphasizing accountability for targeting vulnerable communities, especially older adults.
Court documents revealed Herrling’s systematic approach, often choosing neglected homes in rich neighbourhoods.
Once inside, she and her partners seized control, sometimes while the victim’s body remained undiscovered.
