A Nigerian woman abducted by gunmen in Auchi, Edo State, has urgently pled for help after her captors set a deadline for a N20 million ransom

The victim, identified as Aisha Wahab, was kidnapped last Saturday at Igbira Camp. Her kidnappers reportedly demanded N20 million for her release, giving her family only until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to meet the ransom or face fatal consequences.

In a video circulating online, a visibly terrified Aisha pleaded for public assistance, warning that her life was at risk if the ransom was not raised in time. The post accompanying the video read:

“Kidnappers force victim, Aisha Wahab, to record a video and beg Nigerians to help her raise ₦20M ransom, otherwise she would be killed. She was kidnapped at Igbira Camp, Auchi, Edo, one week ago.”

The video shows an armed man pointing a gun at Aisha’s head and chest as she appeals to the public to help save her life.

Residents of Auchi have condemned the rising wave of kidnappings in Edo State, describing the situation as a “lucrative business” thriving under government inaction. They accused the state government of failing to provide adequate security despite its constitutional responsibility to protect citizens.

Local voices have also criticized security agencies for prioritizing the arrest of human rights activists over addressing violent crimes, including kidnappings.

This incident comes months after two seminarians were kidnapped at Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Auchi in July 2025, during which an NSCDC officer was killed. Although the Catholic Church reportedly paid a ransom, the victims have yet to be released.

Residents are now calling on Edo State’s Chief Security Officer, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to take immediate action to curb the escalating insecurity, which has made the state increasingly dangerous for residents and travelers alike.
