Actress Juliana Olayode has defended women who openly desire marriage, saying the choice should be respected
Olayode said on Instagram that she stumbled upon a BRIDE swimsuit her friend had gifted her in 2024, a day after she shared her opinion at a salon where some women were shaming another woman for wanting to get married.
She said that despite the high rate of divorce and difficult stories surrounding marriage, some people still believe in its beauty and should be allowed to want it in peace.
According to her, wanting marriage does not strip a woman of purpose, ambition or identity.
Her post read, “I’m going to marry the love of my life. Randomly seeing this BRIDE swimsuit my friend gifted me in 2024 on a day like this, after giving my unsolicited opinion about some women shaming another woman for wanting to get married at a salon, made me laugh so hard. I wasn’t even looking for it! God really does have a sense of humour.
“But honestly, regardless of the rate of divorce, the stories we hear, or how difficult marriage can sometimes be, some people simply believe marriage is beautiful and want to experience it. And that should be okay. You don’t have to want marriage. You don’t have to make it a priority. You can even decide it’s not for you.
“But please, let those who desire it desire it in peace. Wanting to be married doesn’t mean you have no purpose. Wanting a husband doesn’t mean you have lost yourself. Being excited about becoming a wife doesn’t make you less ambitious or stupid.
“Some of us want God, purpose, career, impact, money, friendship, family, a beautiful marriage and everything good in life. So may everyone who desires marriage find a good man, a good woman, and a marriage worth the desire. Up love! Up marriage!”
