The World Bank has granted Nigeria $1.57 billion in funding, divided into three operations, to strengthen human capital and enhance resilience to climate change
According to Channels TV, the funding will support HOPE-GOV, a $500 million operation addressing governance issues hindering education and healthcare service delivery, ensuring transparency and accountability in financing, and enhancing teacher and healthcare worker recruitment.
Additionally, HOPE-PHC, a $570 million operation, will enhance primary healthcare services, focusing on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and nutrition, benefiting 40 million vulnerable individuals.
The SPIN operation, also worth $500 million, will enhance dam safety, irrigation, and hydropower, protecting citizens from floods and droughts and supporting 950,000 people through improved agricultural productivity.
World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiamé Diop, emphasized, “Investing in health and education is crucial for increasing employment opportunities, productivity, and earnings while reducing poverty.”
The SPIN program will have a significant positive impact on people’s lives.
This significant funding demonstrates the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development priorities.
