The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has introduced new rules restricting interactions between men and women in public, including private conversations in vehicles, to align with Sharia law
In a notice dated December 31, 2025, the Commission cautioned against what it called reckless behavior in cars during weddings, Sallah, and other social gatherings.

The directive bars men and women from sitting together in cars or on motorcycles, engaging in physical contact, or holding private conversations under the pretense of casual chat.
Issued by State Commander Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale and approved by Chairman Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, the measures are aimed at promoting moral discipline and safeguarding the upbringing of children.
The Commission urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to assist in enforcing the guidelines, describing them as part of broader efforts to regulate public conduct and uphold Islamic values, particularly during festive seasons.
