A young leader from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Yakubu Muhammad, has been tragically killed in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He was shot by unidentified gunmen around 7:40 pm on Thursday while he was at a tea selling point in Jebu area.
Ya’u Idris, the MACBAN chairman for Bassa LGA, confirmed the incident, describing Yakubu’s killing as deliberate and deeply unfortunate. He assured that the incident has been reported to security agencies, including Operation Safe Haven, which is responsible for maintaining peace in the area. Idris appealed for calm among their members.
Garba Abdullahi, the state chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), condemned the killing, emphasizing that Yakubu was innocent and urging the Fulani community to avoid taking justice into their own hands. He called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident.
During Yakubu’s burial, Brigadier General M. O. Agi, Chief of Staff of Operation Safe Haven, expressed his condemnation of the act, highlighting Yakubu’s contributions to peace efforts in the region. He pledged that justice would be sought for the deceased through a thorough investigation.
Yakubu Muhammad was known for his involvement in peace initiatives, including committees established to address conflicts between farmers and herders in various LGAs of Plateau State. His death has left a significant impact on the community he served.
