The minister stated this on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, citing a directive from the Federal Government to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) to enforce an 18-year age limit for exam eligibility.

Mamman clarified that this policy is not new, but rather a reminder of existing regulations.

He explained that the typical educational pathway in Nigeria, from early childcare to senior secondary school, spans 17.5 years, culminating in students being ready for university admission at age 18.

The minister emphasized that WAEC and NECO will no longer allow underage students to take their examinations, ensuring compliance with the requisite number of years spent in each level of study.
