The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party, effectively ending his leadership of the party

In a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, the apex court overturned an earlier judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had upheld Abure’s position as chairman.
The court stated that the appellate court had overstepped its bounds, noting that matters relating to party leadership are internal issues and not within the jurisdiction of the judiciary.
Ruling in favor of an appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another appellant, the Supreme Court declared the appeal meritorious. It also pointed out that Abure’s tenure as chairman had already expired based on the evidence presented.
Consequently, the court dismissed a cross-appeal filed by Abure’s faction within the Labour Party.
