The Zamfara State Government has dismissed reports that a 22-year-old woman named Zainab Muhamadu is set to face trial in a Sharia court for converting to Christianity, calling the claims false and misleading

The allegation, initially published by an online platform, claimed that the woman was facing a death sentence in Zamfara. However, in a statement released by the spokesperson for the governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the government said it found no evidence of such a case after thorough investigations.
“The story is completely false and the handiwork of enemies of peace who want to create unnecessary tension,” the statement read. It added that the viral report originated from social media and was based on fabricated information.
The government also confirmed through the Grand Khadi of the Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal that no such case has ever existed in any Sharia court in the state.
In a further clarification, the statement revealed that the photo used in the report was not of a Nigerian woman but of an American named Aalia from Texas. The government condemned the report as an example of irresponsible journalism and urged security agencies to investigate and prosecute those behind the story.
“This is yellow journalism at its worst,” the statement said, urging the public to reject divisive narratives that could stir religious conflict.
