Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has applauded the Court of Appeal in Abuja for affirming his victory in the September 21, 2024, governorship election

The three-member panel, led by Justice Mohammed Danjuma, delivered a unanimous judgment on Thursday, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo. The appeal sought to overturn the April 2, 2025, verdict of the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld Okpebholo’s election.
Reacting to the judgment, Governor Okpebholo, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Ituah, urged Ighodalo to accept the decision as the true reflection of the will of the people.
“Governor Monday Okpebholo commends the judiciary for its diligence and commitment to justice, and for once again demonstrating its role as the last hope of the common man. This ruling is not just a victory for our party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, but a triumph for democracy and the rule of law in Edo State,” the statement read.
The governor also called on the opposition to reflect on the outcome of the case, stressing that continued litigation only serves as a distraction from the real work of governance and development.
He noted that he has consistently extended a hand of peace to all, regardless of political affiliation, and emphasized that the collective development of Edo State must take precedence over political rivalry.
“I urge Mr. Ighodalo to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and statesmanship,” Okpebholo said, “especially now that the legal process has run its course and the judgment of the Court of Appeal is unambiguous.”
