President Donald Trump has responded to questions about whether he would consider granting a presidential pardon to embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, following the hip-hop icon’s recent federal conviction
Speaking in a Friday interview on Newsmax’s Finnerty, hosted by Rob Finnerty, Trump was asked about Diddy’s legal troubles and whether a pardon could be on the table.
Diddy was recently convicted on two counts under the Mann Act, a federal law that prohibits the transportation of individuals across state lines for purposes of prostitution. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.
Asked directly about the possibility of a pardon, Trump responded, “I was very friendly with Diddy once. We got along great. He seemed like a nice guy.”
Still, Trump distanced himself from the music executive, recalling Diddy’s past criticism during his presidential campaigns: “When I ran for office, he was very hostile toward me. That type of thing can cloud our judgment sometimes.”
While he didn’t commit to a clear decision, Trump said he would need to review the full details of the case before considering any action, leaving the possibility of a pardon open.
Diddy remains in legal limbo as he awaits a decision on his latest bail motion. His sentencing for the Mann Act conviction is set for October, and he could face significant prison time depending on the court’s ruling.
