Hollywood legend, Robert Redford has d!ed at the age of 89
It has been six years since his last on-screen appearance in a record-breaking film.
Redford passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the Utah mountains, according to a statement from his representative.
“Robert Redford passed away at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah – the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” said Cindi Berger, chairman and CEO of Rogers & Cowan PMK. “He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy.”
Fans and celebrities have paid tribute to Redford, celebrating his iconic performances, including his role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and his legacy as the founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
Redford’s final on-screen role was in Avengers: Endgame, where he reprised his character Alexander Pierce, the disgraced former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Though Pierce died in Winter Soldier, Redford returned for a cameo in Endgame thanks to the film’s time-travel storyline.
Endgame was his last feature film appearance, and it went on to gross nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
