Fuji music star Taye Currency took center stage at the coronation of former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, but his performance sparked mixed reactions

His set, blending contemporary Fuji rhythms with traditional Yoruba melodies, drew praise for its energy and creativity but also raised eyebrows over certain lyrics.

Many felt the words came across as a subtle jab at other kings, which some deemed inappropriate for such a solemn royal ceremony, fueling online debates and propelling him to the top trends on X.

The Fuji singer said: “Wehrey la  fi n eo wehrey”, singing in numerous times. The lyrics translates to “Trouble is caused by trouble” or “Problems arise from problems.”

The coronation, held Friday at the historic Mapo Hall, attracted notable figures including President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alongside traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, Oluwo of Iwo, Soun of Ogbomoso, and the Alaafin of Oyo.

While some critics argued that Fuji veterans like Saheed Osupa or KWAM 1 might have been more suitable for the occasion, others celebrated Taye Currency’s fusion of modern and traditional music.
