Seyi Tinubu has denied claims made by actress Sarah Martins that he gifted her N20 million following her recent arrest and release for violating Lagos sidewalk laws while feeding the homeless
Martins had gone online earlier in the week to celebrate what she described as a “from disgrace to grace” moment, claiming Seyi Tinubu came to her aid after her ordeal with the Lagos State Environmental Task Force.
However, in a statement shared on his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu clarified that he had no direct involvement in the alleged donation and emphasized his respect for law and order in Lagos.
He wrote:
“I have been informed that some friends of mine, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young woman who had an encounter with the law over an environmental violation.
“Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern.
“That said, I must emphasize that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State.
“Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order.
” Empathy and patriotism must always go together. We can support people in need, but we must do so responsibly, in a way that uplifts lives while keeping faith with the rules and values that bind us as a people.”
“His clarification follows widespread media coverage of Sarah Martins’ claim, which had sparked debates online about privilege and accountability. Many users had questioned whether the alleged donation encouraged disregard for public regulations.
By distancing himself, Seyi Tinubu underscored that compassion should not come at the expense of the law and that any act of support must align with the order and values Lagos upholds.
